News from North: Bodenburg commits, Sonsalla nears decision

March 23, 2010

A new era will begin at Eau Claire North next season as not only will a new head coach be appointed, but two of its best players from the past three seasons, quarterback Brett Bodenburg and wide receiver/defensive back Tyler Sonsalla, will graduate and move on to pursue their post-secondary endeavors.

Bodenburg made his college commitment known on Sunday when he chose UW-Stevens Point as his college destination. The 2nd team All-BRC and All-BRCFootball.com quarterback led the BRC in passing yards this season with 1,134 yards through the air.

“I decided that i needed to keep playing football, and point just felt right,” Bodenburg said.

Bodenburg’s most impressive performance in his three years under center for the Huskies came in Week 3 this season when he set the school record for passing yards (302) and touchdowns (4) in leading the Huskies to a 28-27 victory over the then 2-0 Rice Lake Warriors.

The favorite passing target of Bodenburg over the past two seasons has been 6’3″ Tyler Sonsalla. The 1st team All-BRC and All-BRCFootball.com wide receiver visited Macalester College last weekend and has received interest from schools at the Division I, Division II and Division III levels. Sonsalla is currently waiting on a few admissions decisions before making his final decision which should come in the next few weeks.

Also a talented basketball player, Sonsalla has received interest from the Division III level for basketball and finished his senior season averaging 9.8 points per game for the 18-7 Huskies.
