Earlier this month Travis Wilson of Wissports.net reported that Menomonie linebacker Brent Stout would be attending Army at West Point to continue his football career. Stout attended off-season camps at North Dakota, BYU and Harvard as well as taking a visit to West Point, UPENN, and North Dakota State.
Stout was accepted to Army, Air Force and received two ROTC scholarships to BYU and Wisconsin, but for Stout the Armed Forces Bowl champions were “always at the top” of his list.
Stout, a 2010 Honorable Mention All-State honoree, also received interest from North Dakota, North Dakota State, Pennsylvania, Minnesota-Duluth, BYU, Air Force, Harvard, Brown, Dartmouth and Grinnell College. He plans to study mechanical engineering at West Point.

Huempfner Weighing College Options
Most Valuable Player awards are almost always given out for singular games, tournaments or seasons. But if you were to give an MVP award out for the last two seasons in the Big Rivers Conference, it most certainly would go to Chippewa Falls running back Brad Huempfner.
The 6’0 210 lb. workhorse for head coach Chuck Raykovich carried the ball 413 times for 2,219 yards and 29 touchdowns as he led the Cardinals to a 10-9 mark over the last two seasons. The leading rusher in 2009 suffered a sprained MCL in Week 8 which kept him out of the season finale against Menomonie as he finished the season third in rushing yardage behind Rice Lake quarterback Kody Novinska and River Falls running back Nick Zimmerman.
The knee injury and the exit in Level 1 of the WIAA playoffs wasn’t how Huempfner envisioned his senior season ending but one of the top backs in the best decade had a special career as the featured back in the Cardinals offensive attack.
“I would say everything was special, I really enjoyed playing high school football and I miss it like crazy,” Huempfner said.
High school football is missed by many former players but for Huempfner he already has his fair share of opportunities to continue to play at the next level.
A host of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference schools including Bemidji State, Concordia St. Paul, University of Minnesota-Duluth, University of Minnesota-Crookston, Upper Iowa University and Mankato State have all shown interest in the bruising back. Division III Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schools UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stout have also expressed interest in Huempfner.
“I’m not really sure to be honest what schools I am most interested in, I just plan to weigh out my options,” Huempfner said.
Bemidji State and UW-Stout top Huempfner’s current list of his top schools as he has already visited UW-Stout but still plans to visit Bemidji State and Upper Iowa. Huempfner is 70 percent sure that he wants to continue playing at the college level as he has not ruled out attending a two-year technical school. He plans to make his decision around the February 3rd National Signing Day.
